Gulskogen Shopping Centre has a multi-level parking facility used by large numbers of visitors throughout the day. With parking spread across several levels, finding an available space could require drivers to search through different parts of the facility.
To make parking easier to navigate, Gulskogen needed a guidance system that could show drivers where spaces were available before they entered each level.
The challenge
Gulskogen’s parking facility spans several levels and accommodates a high volume of vehicles throughout the day. Without information about available spaces, drivers could enter a level without knowing whether parking was available.
This was particularly challenging because parts of the facility operate with one-way traffic. If a driver reached a level without finding a space, they could need to continue through the facility before trying another area.
Gulskogen therefore needed a solution that could provide drivers with information about available parking before they chose where to go, while also providing guidance within the parking areas.

The solution
Sensade installed 813 wireless LoRaWAN sensors across the Gulskogen parking facility. The sensors detect whether individual parking spaces are available or occupied and continuously transmit occupancy data to the Sensade platform.
The occupancy data is used across several levels of parking guidance. Inside the parking areas, 102 ceiling parking lamps show drivers where spaces are available. At entrances and ramps, 14 digital parking signs and two digital pylons show the number of available spaces on each level, helping drivers choose where to go before entering a parking area.
The Sensade dashboard also gives the operator access to current and historical occupancy data, providing an overview of how the parking facility is used over time.
The impact
Drivers can now see how many spaces are available on different levels before choosing where to go. Once inside the parking area, the ceiling parking lamps provide further guidance to individual available spaces.
This reduces the need to search across different levels and makes it easier for visitors to find parking when they arrive at the shopping centre.
For the operator, current and historical occupancy data provides greater insight into how the parking facility is used. This makes it possible to identify patterns in demand and better understand how occupancy varies over time.
Guidance throughout the parking facility
The parking guidance system combines sensors, ceiling parking lamps, digital signs and pylons to provide information at different points throughout the parking facility.
Drivers can see availability before choosing a level and receive further guidance once inside the parking area. At the same time, the operator has access to occupancy data through the Sensade dashboard, bringing parking guidance and parking data together in one solution.
The results
- Clear guidance to available parking spaces across multiple levels
- Reduced need to search across the parking facility
- Easier navigation for visitors
- Current occupancy information throughout the parking facility
- Current and historical occupancy data for the operator
